Seismic Calculations

Seismic calculations are provided by a licensed engineer to determine the storage rack capacity. They are almost always a requirement for the permit process and must be completed by a seismic engineer. There are several factors they will consider to determine the capacity of the storage rack material. Each rack configuration or profile must have it's own calculation, therefore the cost of seismic calculations increases with more rack configurations. There are several factors an engineer will consider to determine the maximum capacities, they include, but are not limited to:

• Configurations, how many different configurations or profiles does your warehouse require?
• Beam Spacing and length, how many levels are in each rack configuration? How wide is the rack configuration?
• Frame depth & height, what is the depth of your rack frame? How tall is the frame?
• Steel gauge, what is the steel gauge of the frame column and bracing?
• Required capacity, what is the maximum weight you require per storage level?
• Seismic zone, calculations will vary depending on location and how seismically active your area is.
• Concrete thickness and soil compaction, what is the thickness and PSI of your warehouse floor?
